Videogames thread. Playing in the sandbox continues until morale improves edition.
Finally had the time to play some EU5. Whilst the initial impression was pretty positive, after awhile some cracks begin to show. Obviously, the AI is ass, and it peters out to competely braindead before 1600. But the thing that disappointed me the most is the economy system. 1. Every medieval state is apparently a planned centralised economy where the means of production is entirely owned by the government. You have to build every workshop or manufactory and you get all the profits. 2. Magic money. Since the population and the estate own basically nothing, they just generate money out of the thin air, which you can then tax at the rate of 150%+ 3. Every location has a single rural good. You've got a wheat field? No way to let cows and sheep graze next to it, I guess. Not to mention that somehow the maximum size of the RGO depends on the population and not on the availability of the resourse in the location, like fertile land, or the amount of available ore, or whatever. Basically, what I'm saying is, I want MEIOU&Taxes for EU5
>>23806 I agree. It also means there is way too much micro management.
>>23905 Yes, instead of investing in key industries and infrastructure and leaving the rest to private enterprises you have to do literally everything using the state budget, North Korea style. It's both very tedious for a player and extremely unrealistic for the period.

So I've finally been playing the original Shantae on GBC (emulated) and was pretty underwhelmed. I've heard and read over the years, again and again, "This is this amazing GBC indie game, and it's so good, you gotta play it!" It looks great, that's for sure—great use of color palettes and beautiful sprite work—but a lack of parallax and general line distortion effects; there are older games that do that better. But it kinda ends there. The soundtrack is boring and mostly not fitting the areas, the dance mechanic is, in theory, a cool Zelda-like idea but tedious, the combat is boring, and the controls are flawed, with run requiring an attack in the first place. The harpy has ice physics for some reason, the spider can't run. All the abilities you gather throughout the game also feel like they have one or two purposes, and that's it. Also, zero replay value. I unlocked everything. Well. And there's lots of backtracking, and the structure is always the same: find town, talk to NPC, find dungeon. How has this game developed such a cult following, and there are even more titles, except for the big-tit genie and ass-shaking deviantart porn fantasy? I accidentally made a whole thread but cannot delete it.

I build some buildings. Then I watch. Then I build more buildings.
>>23963 On my wishlist as well, but I'm not sure if it beats Kingdoms Reborn. Yet the latter leaves me mad since an update added EUs final nail in the coffin Merkel.
>>23145 But its only a single player game, if you want multiplayer... i still playing red orchestra 2
I played Little Nightmares I and II a little while back and II especially is such a cosy game. I was excited about III but then I learnt it was being made by a different studio, and they'd switched to being a 2 player game. Then I learnt that the original devs were making some kind of spiritual successor too, but then I learnt even that one is some 2 player thing. I don't have friends and I don't want to play with a dumb AI. Games like that shouldn't be multiplayer anyway, it'll detract from the scariness. Sad!
Someone suggested couch co-op games a few weeks or months ago. I tried It Takes Two, but my gf sucks too bad at such games ;_; I wish the bosses were skippable or single-player-beatable. So, I'm still looking for recommendations.
>>24032 I managed to beat it with mine, and I can hardly believe yours can be worse, unless she's actively hating games. What we usually did was switch. She got the character with the less complicated actions and I did the work.
>>24034 She doesn't hate games, it's just that she didn't grow up anywhere near them, plus she gets a bit nervous under pressure. Like when she has to dodge stuff and do something at the same time. Even stuff like walking/jumping/double jumping/wall jumping doesn't come naturally to here, so it's nice that she immediately respawns if she falls into a pit. Just as a demonstration of how bad she is at video games.
>>24035 Mine can't navigate in 3D spaces and over the entire course of the game didn't manage to understand that can influence the width of your jump by just keeping the stick pushed in the desired direction, leading to many, many deaths from falling into small gaps. I have to say though that she used to enjoy 2D jump'n'runs on the SNES.
>>24037 >didn't manage to understand that can influence the width of your jump by just keeping the stick pushed in the desired direction, leading to many, many deaths from falling into small gaps lel, sounds familiar. Maybe their difference in skill comes down to how they handle the boss fights. She really doesn't enjoy them.
>>24039 >She really doesn't enjoy them. Shame. Nothing worse than understanding the boss mechanics, but not being able to pull it off. Happened to me in Cuphead.
>>24032 Waifu and i had fun with Trine 1-3, LEGO Batman 3 and LEGO Indiana Jones. Investing in XBOX controllers was worth it.
My gf is obsessed with Slay the Spire but I can't get her to play any real time action type game
>>23806 Played some more over the weekend and noticed quite a bit more problems. The fact that the only difference between different eras' regular units is their size is ridiculous. Apparently there are a lot of hidden combat stats. Why? Also, right now any war feels like a zombie horde game, the AI just keeps re-raising levies and sending them to the slaughter. What's the point of the building limit? You're already limited by available population. The UI is complete ass. THe tables are misaligned, sometimes nearly unreadable, and the tooltip sometimes straight up lie to you. I'm sure one day it'll be a great game, but honestly kind of a dissapointing release. Miles ahead of I:R or Vic3, though.
>>24663 I'm not surprised a Paradox game is shit. I seriously doubt it will ever be great.
>>24663 IR got to a pretty good state by the end. Hopefully EU V will too. But EU V is being rated much higher than IR so maybe they will have less incentive too. And they also never fixed V3.
>>24673 This is how they roll: 1. release a title 2. its either shit or barebones or both 3. start releasing dlcs to fix things, which they often botch introducing new inbalances, and to add flavor and unique experience for various participants building up the world 4. they run out of things to add 5. release title II of the same, "updated graphics" slightly different approach 6. repeat #2 to #4 7. release title III of the same, "updated graphics" slightly different approach 8. repeat #2 to #4 9. ... 10. PROFIT

>>24689 I just watched some German voice acting trailer for the remake. It's nice that they brought the familiar VA's back but some of them died and I'm still very skeptical about the entire project.

Bernd watched a few videos about Civ3 recently and had to not dedust the original box in his cellar, but the copy on Steam he got years ago. Playing just on second lowest difficulty and with the knowledge that the agriculture perk is imbalanced, so Inca Chads it is. Already had a good early expansion, lacking in workers tho as I started to build an army as Trondheim really should historically be Incan clay to close the gap on the landmass. Also a lucky camp netted a far away city that will be developed towards next to cut off whatever lingers there next. I think there's also a modding scene and even mods that expand the modern eras to plainly skip all the clubbing shit and play with the fun toys for longer.
>>25956 The pointless temple production is getting rectified into a useful worker btw.

Picked this thing up on sale. Not the biggest fan of mechs but the combat is deep and fun, plus it's superior WEGO as opposed to IGOUGO.

This game is ebin :-D
I just finished this, or at least got one of the endings. What a great game. Who'd have thought an RPG Maker game could be so cool.
I have decided I am going to try Arc Raiders.
It's not very good.
The setting and atmosphere is boring and muted. All characters run around in grungy overalls and all you can unlock are more grungy overalls. The game is set in an arid area overrun by robots. I hate arid areas but also the robots are boring enemies. There are human players but they are actually usually friendly so I would feel bad if I shot them. The gunplay is average, the guns are not very good, there isn't much you can do to them, there isn't really much to aim for in regards to that weapon progression, there are better weapons but not many and they are locked behind level barriers. It's just not an interesting game.
>>27611 And you needed to play it instead of looking at 5 mins of gameplay videos to figure that out?
The avatar change makes it better, in a "before and after" way
>>16163 >Silent Hill Feminism I lol'd hard. I have just finished The Citadel. It was very nice and comfy shooting experience with minor hitches and one bad platforming level that I used levitation cheat to overcome. Dualwielding Flachettte machineguns was very fun, I love that. The vibe of the game was very melancholic. I am looking forward to playing the second game, Beyond The Citadel, later this week.

Maded some video of ye olde base.
Arkknights is making a Genshinlike called Arknights Endfeild, interesting. In this game all party members will be on field at once which is cool. Also, Total War is having a 25th Anniversary Showcase today/tomorrow(at 2.30am in Australia) this is what the announcement on Steam says(they made this announcement on all Total war games). >Total War Community, >An exciting new era is upon us. >Join us on December 4th, 4pm GMT for the Total War 25th Anniversary Showcase – a special video presentation celebrating exciting new projects across historical and fantasy Total war. >This showcase will be your front seat to see what we’ve been eagerly building behind the scenes. Across the franchise, we’re working on a variety of projects that span different settings and stages of development and now we finally get to share some of them with you. >Wherever you are in the world, we can’t wait for you to tune in and be part of it. Honestly, I am curious to see what they are working on but I am not actually that hopeful.
>>27868 Nice. Makes me want to play again.
>>28060 Thanks, I hoped that it would kickstart the same urge again. We'll see what the long weekend will bring :3 Also that Austrian that maded this game is kind of a big idol for me, that guy did everything right and followed his dreams. He moved to Estonia before starting his own company because fuck all the taxes, duties and fees here for old, lazy boomers in nonsensical, highly corrupt quasi-state "support agencies" that do nothing for the self-employed or small companies. >>27884 :3

>>28332 Nobody promised you anything, the only thing you can rely on is your self in this world.
AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNSOjQPgk_k I randomly got suggested this by Youtube and I never expected this to happen to Warthunder.
